The engagement ceremony follows and both the bride and the groom will be applied with turmeric liquid as a holy way of refreshing the couple. Following the turmeric refreshment, the fun act of Kashi Yatra is performed in which the groom decides to pack his things and run forever towards Kashi to attain permanent bachelorship until his uncle convinces him to withdraw his decision and accept the marriage. The third act in the pre-wedding ceremony is to present the wedding-related things before an idol of god mostly a Ganesh idol.

The Bangalore Wedding Style

Usually, the wedding takes place in a Mandap with complete decorations. The first thing done at the Bangalore matrimony will be Paadha Pooja. This is a ritual where the bride’s father washes the groom’s feet before sending the bride to sit beside him. Then the groom ties the Mangalyam around the bride’s neck which is a symbol of marriage in Hindu tradition. Afterward, the bride and the groom have to take seven rounds around the holy fire. This is when the marriage is done. Food is served to the guests and the family members.

Post-Wedding

After the marriage is done and the food is served, then it’s time for Griha Pravesh. It is an important ritual in which a warm welcome is given to the bride at the groom’s house by her mother-in-law along with some games and parties to make her be at ease. This is known in English as Homecoming. The entire family of the groom will be present and the mother-in-law takes the “Aarti” for the couple. After the welcome, the couple gets the blessings from the elderly present over there. After this comes the part of tilting a rice bowl by the bride followed by dipping her feet in Alta. As the bride walks further, the red footprints of her feet are left behind all the way. Then the games are played to make the bride feel better.
